Insomnia and Anxiety Psychologist in Ohio

Clinical psychologist, Dr. Shapree Summerville

If you’ve struggled with insomnia, anxiety, or chronic stress, you may be familiar with what it feels like to be functioning on the outside while internally feeling depleted, overstimulated, or unable to fully rest. For many adults, these patterns become long-standing cycles that are difficult to break without targeted support.

Much of my clinical work focuses on these exact experiences.

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), anxiety, and stress-related difficulties. Over the course of my training and clinical work in both veteran and civilian populations, I became increasingly focused on how sleep disruption, cognitive overactivation, and physiological stress responses interact to maintain these cycles over time.

That focus shaped my approach to treatment.

Rather than viewing insomnia or anxiety as isolated symptoms, I conceptualize them as systems—patterns of behavior, thinking, and arousal that can be identified, understood, and modified using evidence-based methods. My work integrates CBT-I, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to address these maintaining processes in a structured and practical way.

Today, I work with adults who are ready for a focused, skills-based approach to improving sleep, reducing anxiety, and strengthening their ability to manage stress. Together, we target the mechanisms that are keeping these patterns in place and build strategies that support more consistent sleep, greater emotional regulation, and improved day-to-day functioning.

The goal is not simply symptom relief, but a more stable and sustainable way of living supported by evidence-based care.

The Principles Behind My Work

I believe therapy is most effective when it respects that everyone moves at their own pace. Healing isn’t linear, and meaningful change happens when you feel safe enough to slow down, explore, and reflect—without pressure or a fixed timeline.

My approach focuses on identifying the patterns that maintain the challenges you're experiencing, not just managing symptoms. Together, we’ll explore the behavioral, cognitive, and physiological factors that shape these difficulties, so our work leads to structured change rather than temporary relief.

Therapy is a collaborative process. You guide the direction and pace of our work, while I offer thoughtful structure, evidence-based strategies, and support when they’re most helpful.

I strive to create a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive space where all parts of you are welcome, including your background, beliefs, and lived experiences. My role is to guide you as you develop greater clarity, self-understanding, and a way forward that feels authentic and aligned.
